E-conference postings are ciculated by means of the Mountain Legacy Google group, which you can join at http://groups.google.com/group/MountainLegacy, and on the e-conference archive page Agenda The larger purpose of this e-conference is to share information on the state of our understanding and ability to forecast large-scale natural hazards in remote mountainous destinations and to discuss strategies for the mitigation of these hazards that will take into account the losses and disruption incurred by inaccurate predictions. A specific area of major attention will be the hazard of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), and, as a geographic example, Rolwaling Valley, Nepal. However, the scope of the conference is global and not limited to any particular hazard. We invite "e-presentations" on:
Although our primary focus will be on natural hazards, human impact is inevitably a significant component in the magnitude, frequency, and risk exposure of these events. Some collateral attention may be given to military conflict in mountainous regions, as the risks are in many ways parallel to those of natural disasters. Featured Presentation "Glacial hazard assessment and risk management: lessons from Tsho Rolpa and new perspectives," by Professor John M. Reynolds, Managing Director, Reynolds Geo-Sciences, Ltd.
